Let me see if I can sum this up quickly. Hmmmm, how about, “What a freakin’ mess of a movie,” or “That will be two-and-a-half hours of my life I’ll never get back.” I guess I should have known. I did the right thing; my due diligence before paying out the cash. I asked around and got mixed reviews. Some liked it, others panned it badly. How bad could it be, I asked myself. Currently, the number one box office cash-cow, there has to be a reason — a good reason!?
Yeah, the reason is because the hype machine did a number on the public, or all the adults who grew up watching the show (something I can actually claim I never did) and have seen the movie a dozen times each. Whatever the reason, the wild success is highly overrated.
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t expect an epic sage, stretching across the ages, with protagonists who carried their respective roles deep into character. No, I expected a well executed, moderately mindless spectacular summer flick. What I received in return was a spectacular mess, devoid of intellect, and bereft of any semblance of plot or intrigue. Rating? Sure. I give it a “Strong Five out of Ten: Wait for DVD Release, and rent on two-for-one weekend.” Just be sure this is the free movie, not the one you’re paying for.
Four words: “Michael Bay Action Movie”.
I see that and I expect nice explosions, maybe a good chase scene. The rest will almost always be “meh”.

One craptacular production after another.
Interesting. That may be a large component of the problem, and I’d heard several sources panning Michael Bay because of his directorial history; however, I find myself liking a couple of movies from that list.
Okay, perhaps I should not admit this but I enjoyed ‘Pearl Harbor’ — thought it was well done. And on the lower end of the scale, for simple action flicks (suspend at the door), ‘Armageddon’ and ‘The Rock’ have some hilarious and/or well done action scenes.
But if I think that through, the actors carried those movies more than the plot or action. Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage were fun in ‘The Rock.’ While Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thorton, and Steve Buschemi made ‘Armageddon’ quite tolerable.
But, bottom line, whether it be directing, lack of a leading man, or poor CGI work, ‘Transformers’ was junk. In that, we completely agree.
